New Blog

Got bored this Friday evening and decided to start a blog.

I went to Barnes and Noble today after work specifically to get World War Z by Max Brooks (Mel Brooks' kid). But, per usual, everytime I'm in that store I end up looking at at least 10 more books while I'm there (which I have no business buying, as I have hundreds, many of which I've never read). The most irritating part of my adventure was the usual, "CAN I INTEREST YOU IN THE B&N MEMBERSHIP CARD? YOU CAN SAVE 10%!". Just like every other time, I answered no.

One book that caught my eye was "The Child Thief" by Brom. Supposedly, it's a dark reimagining of Peter Pan - but after doing a little research, I'm not so sure I want to read it. I usually love dark literature and other various media, but this novel seemed a little too grotesque for even my taste. The premise is that Pan takes these kids to a sort of post-apocalyptic Neverland - promises them paradise, delivers them a nightmare. Great so far, right? Then I read reviews for it, and it's full of rape (including child molestation) and completely inexplicable levels of other violence. I think I'll pass.

I did pick up World War Z with the intention to come home, plop my ass on my couch, and delve into the world of a post zombie war America. Instead, I turned on Netflix and started watching old horror movies. Typical.

If you haven't ever seen John Carpenter's "Into the Mouth of Madness" (based on an HP Lovecraft story), you should really check it out.
